Gold price today, Thursday, April 10, 2025: Gold hits new record after tariff pause

The price of gold (GC=F) hit a record price of $3,193.80 per ounce on Thursday, rising 3% after opening at $3,099.10. The record-high gold price comes after U.S. President Trump announced a 90-day pause on many reciprocal tariffs. Trump also increased the levy on Chinese goods to 145%. Initially, the market responded positively to the tariff pause. On Wednesday, the S&P 500 rose nearly 10% to $5,456.90. However, the gains were short-lived. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average both lost ground after the opening bell today as the U.S. appears to be locked in a trade war with China. Gold reached a record high price of $3,193.80 per ounce on Thursday, 3% higher than the opening price and 0.8% higher than the previous high of $3,168.80 reached on April 2.
