04/08/2025 Its not often that your pre-med studies take you halfway around the globe, or let you stand face-to-tusk with elephants.Yet seven SUNY Cortland students got to make memories of a lifetime while getting in-depth medical experience during the universitys new Healthcare in Thailand program.The three-week, three-credit winter session course was led by professors Christa Chatfield and Theresa Curtis of the Biological Sciences Department. The group stayed in Chiang Mai, a city of 1.2 million people.The food was amazing, Curtis said. The people were so incredibly friendly.Students got a sense of the breadth of medical care in the region at seven public and private medical facilities, completing clinical hours in fields including dental care, chiropractic care, medical services, physical therapy and traditional Thai medicine.In the morning you're watching ultrasounds with the OBGYN, and in the afternoon you're in a PT (physical therapy) clinic and then you're in the OR (opera...

Major Manchester road CLOSED with police officer in hospital after serious crash

Part of a busy east Manchester road was closed off following a 'serious' crash with a police officer in hospital. A section of Hyde Road, in Gorton, was closed this morning (April 22) following a crash involving two cars, one of which was a police car. The other vehicle was a suspected stolen vehicle. A 21-year-old has been arrested. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says two men were taken to hospital following the incident. One of them was a police officer, who has serious injuries, GMP have said. Chief Inspector Michael Parker, of GMP's Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our drivers are highly qualified and undertake regular and rigorous training. "However, this incident shows the dangers they face each and every day to keep our roads safe. We constantly patrol the road network to catch those who are intent on breaking the law, whether that be dangerous driving, driving under the influence or having no insurance."
